Tackling climate change 'not a sacrifice'
Councils should commit to cutting carbon emissions, one environmental charity has urged, although homeowners may also wish to take steps to lower
their carbon footprints.
A spokesperson for Friends of the Earth said that the benefits of becoming more environmentally friendly range from
creating more jobs to cutting energy bills.
"The perception is that it has to be something that goes with sacrifice and actually it
doesn't. It can be something that is a win-win situation," she added.
And the representative noted that some local authorities in the UK
had shown that it was possible to boost their green credentials.
Britons may find that lowering their carbon impact starts at
home.
One way of achieving this is by improving insulation, which can be boosted with the addition of double glazing and composite doors.
Indeed, unlike timber, composite doors do not twist in cold weather to allow draughts in, while, according to the Energy
Saving Trust double glazing ( http://www.force8.co.uk/index.php ) can reduce heat lost through windows by half.
