Windows 'a key aspect of property'

New windows ( http://www.force8.co.uk/index.php ) can improve the appearance of a property from the street, one sector commentator has claimed, meaning that Britons may wish to either fit new windows ( http://www.force8.co.uk/index.php ) themselves or contact a professional to carry out such work.

Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, stated that older people in particular should be looking to energy efficiency when it comes to property renovations - which may include investing in double glazing.

"The average DIY person wouldn't attempt to replace windows and often it is the windows which are the key aspect of the house - not only from the curbside appearance point of view, but also from the energy efficiency of the house," he added.

However, Mr Leech warned that starting home improvements could unearth some bigger problems in older properties, which homeowners may wish to take immediate steps to fix by contacting a professional.

According to Saga, one in ten of those aged 50 and above have carried out major DIY improvements to their house.

Furthermore, 47 per cent of over-50s have received DIY help from a family member.
