Drama in conservatories for one North West couple
While conservatories ( http://www.force8.co.uk/conservatories.php ) can provide a haven for homeowners as a place to relax
and enjoy the views of the garden, one North West couple recently saw their extension become the centre of drama.
According to the Lancashire
Telegraph, Bill and Dorothy Smalley, 75 and 73 respectively, had been in bed at their home in Chorley when a fire alarm went off.
Mrs Smalley
is profoundly deaf and sleeps with a vibrating alarm under her pillow which alerted her to the danger and allowed her to wake her husband and evacuate
the property.
It was later discovered that water had dripped on to the couple's tumble-drier, which was plugged in, and caused a short
circuit.
Mrs Smalley advised people to always check their smoke alarms are working.
Watch manager Wes Truran, from Chorley fire
station, said: "The vibrating pads are designed for people who are hearing impaired to give them vital early warning of smoke."
