How composite doors could help in winter

Freezing temperatures and snow have affected much of the UK in the last week, leading one group to advise homeowners to take steps to prepare for the winter, which could include fitting new composite doors ( http://www.force8.co.uk/ ) and double glazing.

The Co-operative Insurance notes that people can have a "worry-free" winter by preparing their homes and cars for the season now.

It urges Britons to ensure their water pipes are well insulated to prevent them from bursting, that their heating is left on if they are going away and that paths and driveways are clear to prevent themselves or visitors slipping over.

Insulation could be a further priority for homeowners who wish to stay snug and composite doors and double glazing could help with this.

The Energy Saving Trust asserts that double glazing can reduce the amount of hot air escaping through windows by 50 per cent.

Meanwhile, composite doors are equipped with more insulating measures than timber front doors and they do not crack in cold or wet weather to allow draughts in.

James Hillon, functional leader of the Co-operative Insurance, said: "Preparing for the winter weather doesn't need to be costly or time-consuming, there are a few simple steps which everyone can take to protect themselves."
