'Keep front doors locked', police urge

According to the Coventry Telegraph, police officers have made the plea after burglars gained access to homes in Brandon and Ansty after walking in through the unlocked exterior doors ( http://www.force8.co.uk/ ) to the rear of the properties.

Victims who caught the thieves in the act were informed that they were representatives of the water board and the burglars pleaded to walk out of the houses with the snatched belongings.

Detective Sergeant Martyn Stephens, of Warwickshire Police, said distraction burglaries particularly increase at this time of year, meaning it is worthwhile considering ways of boosting home security.

"Consider installing a side gate so that opportunist burglars cannot go around the back of your house and make sure you lock your back door," he added, going on to urge homeowners to always challenge the identity of any unexpected visitors.
