'Replace weak front doors' to boost security

Christmas is traditionally a time when properties around the UK are full of expensive presents and gifts which may not yet have been safely hidden away, meaning it is important front doors are strong and windows are locked to reduce the risk of a break-in.

Avon and Somerset Police has stated that last year one in four of the homes which were burgled had been left insecure.

The police force advises replacing weak front doors and making sure the frames of exterior doors are strong and in a good condition, which may not be the case if people have timber front doors which are showing signs of rotting.

Furthermore, glazed doors or arched doors with glass panels surrounding them can also be made more secure by installing laminated glass or adding some security film, the group added.
