Retrofitting the UK's existing housing stock is becoming an increasing priority, one sector commentator has asserted - which may see more people
boosting their insulation with double glazing and composite doors.
Gordon
Miller, founder of whatgreenhome.com, said there has been a huge commitment in the UK to reduce carbon emissions and that they must legally have been
cut by 80 per cent by 2050.
"Clearly retrofitting and bringing the existing homes up to speed is absolutely critical if we are going to
meet our own emissions targets and reduce CO2 emissions," he added.
Mr Miller's comments come after the Department of Energy and Climate
Change announced the launch of a new network of eco show homes to demonstrate the range of money-saving and generating technology
available.
Improving insulation could be one positive way in which Britons can reduce their own carbon emissions at home.
Both double glazing and composite doors can prevent heat escaping from a property and cold
draughts getting in, meaning they could be less reliant on their central heating and see their utility bills fall as a result.
