Draught-proof composite doors and double glazing could help to keep homes warm as 2009 draws to a close.
Earlier this week, the Met Office forecasted heavy
snow across the Midlands and Wales, with travel disruption as a result.
"Sharp overnight frosts in northern areas" were also
predicted, which could leave residents in regions such as Cheshire looking for ways to help keep
the heat inside their homes.
Further south, heavy rains were predicted, rather than the snow that could still hit Cheshire and other parts of the North.
Guidance from the Energy Saving Trust suggests
draught-proofing windows and doors, as well as closing curtains as temperatures drop
into the evening.
However, composite doors could help to draught-proof a property
further, as they are unlikely to warp or crack.
Double glazing can also
provide an extra layer of protection as the vacuum between the two panes of glass helps to stop heat from being transmitted out of the
home.
