Thousands of homes across the UK will need to be retrofit every week to meet government home refurbishment targets, it has been claimed - which could
see a rise in demand for products such as double glazing and composite
doors.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, around 13,400 homes a week will need to be retrofit in order to keep up with the government's
commitment to give seven million properties a whole-house makeover by 2020.
It is hoped the pledge will see households successfully reducing
their energy consumption, taking the UK a step closer to complying with its carbon emissions reduction target.
The makeovers will include
work such as improving insulation and boosting energy efficiency.
Composite doors can
help to increase the insulation of a property, as, unlike timber external
doors, they are able to stand up to even the most extreme weather conditions without twisting, cracking or warping to let in chilly
draughts.
Double glazing can also significantly reduce heat loss, meaning that
with these products installed, consumers may be less reliant on their central heating.
Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the Energy Saving
Trust, said: "With the government's 2016 zero carbon homes policy we have a clear trajectory to achieving very low carbon new homes in
England."
