Carrying out DIY around the home can lead to disagreements between couples, it has been claimed - which may prompt Britons to choose an easier but
still rewarding job, such as hanging new composite doors.
Writing for the Times, Karen
Robinson said unrealistic expectations of a home improvement project can often lead to arguments between spouses.
She spoke to Denise
Knowles, a counsellor with Relate, who said: "They think it's going to be a great team project, then one of them gets fed up with living in a
mess with no hot water. And they can't ever relax: relaxation is an important component of relationships."
In order to avoid these
disagreements, Ms Robinson suggests it may be worthwhile taking the time to look for a qualified tradesperson to carry out the work.
However,
by improving a home gradually by picking simple jobs to start out could also help to keep stress at bay.
Composite doors from Stockportdouble glazing supplier Force 8 may be a good place to start as they all come with an easy to follow free instructional
DVD.
And Britons living in the North West of England do not even have to worry about hanging the external doors themselves if they do not wish to as they could take advantage of
the store's professional installation service.
