Could empty homes benefit from composite doors?

Bringing the number of UK properties that are currently unoccupied back into use could give the existing housing supply a significant boost, one sector commentator has claimed - in news that could see developers fitting new double glazing and composite doors.

David Ireland, chief executive at the Empty Homes Agency, said there has been an increasing trend over the past few years for the number of empty homes rising, which he added was "disappointing".

He added that if such properties were brought back into use, "then you have quite a significant contribution to housing supply and it isn't just a one-off".

Doing this could help to reduce the number of empty properties and may also be a source of housing supply for some years, Mr Ireland went on to claim.

His comments come after figures gathered by the Guardian through the Freedom of Information Act revealed that an estimated 450,000 homes in the UK have been unoccupied for at least six months.

Double glazing and composite doors could both be useful additions for empty homes as they help to prevent heat loss.

Furthermore, choosing strong and secure composite doors could see empty buildings at less of a risk of being broken into.
