Draught-proofing external doors and windows is one of the top tips offered by estate agents to homeowners looking to increase
the value of their property.
A recent US survey carried out by HomeGain polled real estate professionals on the top home improvements for
increasing a home's value and applying weather strips to windows and doors was found to
be a top tip.
The advice was defined as being the work that homeowners should carry out in order to see the greatest return on investment,
with the planting of trees and shrubs also revealed to be a popular choice.
Louis Cammarosano, general manager at HomeGain, said:
"Buyers want energy efficient homes and appreciate the aesthetics of natural vegetation and are willing to pay for these
features."
While draught-proofing home fixtures could be a positive short-term step, investing in double glazing and composite doors could be more effective in the long-term to keeping
properties warm.
Unlike timber front doors, composite doors do not crack or warp when exposed to high temperatures.
This means they are less likely to let in cold air
come the winter.
