Property prices 'within five per cent of bottom'

Britons looking for the perfect time to renovate may wish to start their home improvements now as, according to one sector commentator, property prices have less than five per cent further to fall before they bottom out.

Lucian Cook, director of residential research at Savills, said that owner-occupation levels appeared to have peaked and would now continue to decline.

This was because an increasing number of young professionals were likely to find themselves frozen out of the market due to high deposit requirements.

Mr Cook added: "Therefore, a landlord able to take a mid-term view would be well advised to hold their property."

Britons looking to boost the value of their property for when the housing market recovers may wish to install new exterior doors and double glazing.

Composite doors in particular could be a useful addition as it is claimed they are better able to keep draughts out than timber exterior doors.
