Britons battling with the recession may be keen to lower their energy bills as tariffs rise and one reporter has claimed that increased insulation
could be one way to achieve this.
In an article for the Telegraph, Kara Gammell states that more than half of all homes in the UK have
inadequate insulation.
Citing research by the National Insulation Association, she adds that this means 50 per cent of a property's heat is
lost through walls and loft space.
"Although, after last winter, I suspect our house is even worse - and I come from Canada, so if I
think it's nippy it must be very cold," she states.
However, following advice from a property surveyor she now plans to install the
recommended depth for mineral wool insulation of 270mm.
Homeowners keen to boost their own insulation may find that double glazing and new exterior
doors can also help.
At Cheshiredouble glazing supplier Force 8, consumers can design their own composite
doors, which, unlike wood, keep draughts out by not cracking and twisting in wet weather.
