Securing the proper planning permission is vital when installing conservatories, as Cliff Richard recently learnt.
The singer had a large conservatory worth £30,000 fitted to his
Surrey property but was ordered to tear it down by council officials after it was revealed it did not fit in with the correct planning
procedure.
Now, Cliff is planning to sell the property, albeit minus the conservatory, with it currently on the market for £1.35
million.
He told the Daily Mail: "I've got rid of it now.
"It was really beautiful but technically I hadn't complied with
the planning permission, although it wasn't knowingly."
The newspaper reports that the singer is also moving from the beachfront villa
in Barbados he has lived in for the last decade to a smaller penthouse.
As the summer approaches, many homeowners may be considering the
benefits of conservatories for their properties, which can be the perfect
place to sit and enjoy views of the garden with plenty of natural light.
However, Cliff's story may serve as a cautionary tale that in the
long-run, going through the proper planning process can save a lot of time and money.
