In the world of conservatories, Sir Cliff Richard's property extension stood
out from the crowd, valued at an estimated £30,000.
However, the singer was last year ordered by council officials to tear it down for
failing to get the correct planning permission.
And recently, Sir Cliff lost a planning appeal, meaning he must now take steps to remove the
building, with a deadline set for early March.
He had appealed against Runnymede Council's earlier decision not to grant retrospective
planning permission for the extension on his Wentworth Estate, but lost out.
Speaking to Staines News, Virginia Water councillor and chairman
of council's planning committee Geoff Woodger said the final decision by the Planning Inspectorate supported the local authority's view that Sir
Cliff's conservatory breached national policy.
"This decision emphasises the importance of checking whether a planning consent is
required before proceeding with a development such as this," he added.
With this in mind, when planning conservatories of their own, Britons may wish to ensure they make seeking and
securing planning permission one of their top priorities.
