New front doors and windows could
mean that homeowners decrease their chances of becoming the victim of a distraction burglar, it has been claimed.
The Home Office recently
launched a campaign aiming to educate Britons about the risk of such thieves - who operate by using deception as a means of gaining entry to a
property - such as by posing as a salesperson - rather than breaking in.
In addition to taking simple precautions such as always asking to
see a person's ID and using a security chain, the government department claimed that keeping the exterior of a home in good condition could also help
to deter thieves.
This is because such burglars could believe that a house which does not look well-kept or has an untidy garden has owners
who do not care much about it.
Such advice may prompt Britons to invest in new front
doors and windows to ensure that the facade of their home looks in pristine
condition.
And by adding new front doors and windows, Britons may not only be deterring thieves, but also attracting
buyers.
Michael Holmes, home improvement expert and editor-in-chief of Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine and Real Homes Magazine,
recently claimed that a home which had a dated exterior could find its value is dragged down.
