While locking front doors and windows at night may seem like an obvious action for many, residents in Crewe have been warned by police not to forget to make sure
their homes are secure in the evening.
The warning comes after a woman's handbag was stolen from her home during the night, the Crewe
Chronicle reports.
It is believed the burglar was able to gain access as the property's front door had been left unlocked, while the handbag had been left in the living room.
As the nights grow dark earlier,
Britons may wish to ensure that they always lock their front doors and windows before they retire for the evening in order to avoid becoming the victim of an
opportunistic thief who takes advantage of homes which are not properly secure.
As part of its campaign to clamp down on burglaries -
Operation Storm - Greater Manchester Police recently advised homeowners in the North West to
make sure their windows and front
doors are locked, even if they are at home.
