A fifth of Britons are predicted to be set to attempt DIY tasks in their homes over the bank holiday weekend, but a large number of these jobs could
prove to be potentially dangerous, a new survey has suggested.
According to FindaProperty.com, 70 per cent of these are planning to spend
£100 or less on materials and tools.
This may mean that people planning to fit new exterior windows and doors should first seek professional advice.
Fiona Hodge, assistant editor at DIY Week, said that bank holiday
breaks typically saw an increase in accidents as people did not adequately prepare for the job they were taking on.
"Know your limits
and make sure you are prepared for the job you are doing," she added.
Homeowners may be considering purchasing new double glazing or composite doors
this weekend in order to improve insulation in time for the winter.
The Energy Saving Trust asserts that double glazing can cut the amount of heat lost through windows by 50 per cent.
And composite doors may also be a useful addition as they
do not let in draughts by cracking and warping in wet and cold weather, as timber exterior doors
may be prone to do.
