
The number of claims being made following a burglary or theft has dropped, which it has been suggested reflects an increasing trend for Britons
failing to take out or renew their home insurance, which may prompt people into making locking their front doors and windows a priority.
According to
Sainsbury's Home Insurance, there has been a 13 per cent decline in the number of insurance claims it has received, despite the fact that domestic
burglaries are demonstrably on the rise.
As a result, the group has asserted that Britons may not be taking out home contents insurance in an
effort to save money, warning them that they need to take better precautions in terms of their home security.
The financial services provider
advised households to ensure they have easily visible window locks, which could prove a
deterrent to would-be thieves locked exterior doors and windows.
The Crewe Chronicle recently reported that police are warning residents
in the area to lock their front doors, after a burglar stole a woman's handbag from her living
room.
