If they receive an unexpected visitor, Britons have been advised to keep their exterior doors
locked and see who is calling through the window before answering.
Such is the
advice being given by the police, after such a crime is believed to have taken place in Nelson last week, the Campaign reports.
An elderly
lady was visited by a man who looked to be about 17-years-old, who asked if she would change a £20 note for him.
She let him into her
home but after the man left. The lady realised her handbag was missing.
In light of the incident, Gwent police are urging homeowners to put
their windows to good use by using them to check who is calling at their front doors, before they answer the call.
In addition, officers have advised keeping all
exterior doors locked, to ensure that a thief cannot sneak into the home around the
back.
Britons may wish to consider adding additional features to their front doors,
such as a security chain.
At Cheshiredouble glazing supplier Force 8, they could choose composite doors that have
been tested to ensure they will stand up to any attempt of a forceful entry and which also include a five-point locking system.
Force 8 supply a full range of arched and composite doors.
