
Even if they are only popping to the shops or to a neighbour's for a few minutes, Britons should ensure they lock their external doors and windows in order to reduce the risk of falling victim to a burglar.
Police in Aldershot have made the recommendation after
two burglars tried to break into a flat in the area, Get Hampshire reports.
Now officers are urging people to dead lock their front doors, rather than simply lifting up the handles and that they make use of all the locks they
have fitted to their exterior doors and windows.
Furthermore, if people are in the garden or upstairs, they should make sure all the external doors on the ground floor are locked, as a burglar may take advantage
during the summer by testing doors and then walking in to help themselves to belongings.
Plymouth publication the Herald recently reported
thieves in Manadon are believed to be targeting properties where patio doors have been left
unlocked in order to gain access to the home.
