Taking care to lock front doors cannot only see people ensuring the belongings stored inside
their homes are safe, but also their vehicles.
Police in Huddersfield have warned homeowners to be on their guard following a series of
burglaries where cars were the specific target, with six properties so far broken into where vehicles were stolen.
It is believed thieves are
on the lookout for motor keys which are left in view of front or back doors where they can get
to them through letterboxes or a cat flap.
Sergeant Simon Haigh of the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "There have been a
series of incidents recently in which vehicles have been targeted. We would advise people to always lock their doors and windows. Please do not leave keys in your door."
He added that keys should
never be left on show and that if people notice any suspicious activity they should report it.
Elsewhere, the Oxford Times reports that two
burglaries have taken place after households failed to lock all of their exterior doors, leading
police to urge people to always take the time to lock their external doors and
windows, whatever time of day it is.
