Front doors and windows are the
major cause of heat loss from a property, which can not only cause domestic carbon emissions to mount up, but could also be leading to higher energy
bills.
However, the US-based Handyman Connection has advised that there is a simple test people can carry out to see whether their front doors are letting in draughts.
The group recommends people switch off their lights
and see if any illumination is shining through the front doors and windows - such as around the edges or through cracks.
Should this be the case,
the company recommends that homeowners can fit draught-proof strips around the edges, although Britons may wish to invest in composite doors.
Unlike timber front
doors, composite doors do not crack, twist or warp in cold and wet weather to allow cold
draughts in through the edge between the door and its frame.
And they are also easy to keep clean, with just a quick wipe down with a damp
cloth being all that is necessary to keep them looking like new.
