
Thousands of homeowners in the UK could soon be benefiting from the peace of mind that they are secure within their property once they have locked the
exterior doors and windows.
The Home Office has announced its plans to boost its Safer Homes Fund - which was set up in April - by an
additional £1.5 million.
Community and voluntary organisations across the UK have access to the funds, which have and will continue to
be put towards making some 60,000 properties more secure by paying professionals to carry out home improvement work.
This may include fitting
new and more secure and sturdy front doors - such as composite doors - along with locks for all of the windows.
Home Office minister Alan Campbell recently visited Durham resident Bernadette Collins to see how the improved
security she had received was benefiting her.
"Since being burgled I have been feeling very scared and insecure in my home. Now that I
know about the project I am looking forward to my home being made secure for myself and my children," she said.

Insurance recently advised Britons to ensure they always lock their exterior doors and windows, even if they are in the home, in order to reduce the risk of them being targeted
by opportunist thieves.
