While Britons may be keen to take action to reduce their energy bills - such as by fitting new composite doors and double glazing - they may also wish to ensure
they are able to add up their bills, following the findings of a recent survey.
Price comparison site uSwitch gave 2,700 people an energy
bill to calculate, but almost 2,400 (86 per cent) of these got it wrong, the report found.
This saw an overall pass rate of just 14 per cent,
despite the fact people were allowed to use a calculator and make notes, while more consumers have been invited to take part in the test on the
group's website.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch, said: "It serves to highlight the fact that large numbers of
consumers are in danger of being excluded because energy bills are far more complicated than they need to be."
Britons who wish to make
their energy bills lower may wish to invest in double glazing, which can reduce heat
loss, exterior noise and the build-up of condensation.
