Britons planning to sell their home may wish to take steps to improve the building's energy efficiency by investing in insulating fittings such as composite doors and double
glazing.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, while initially being swayed by cosmetic features such as fresh paint or a mown lawn,
two-thirds of buyers soon look past this to more important issues, such as the quality of the windows.
It adds that nearly one-fifth of buyers are put off purchasing a property with single glazed windows, with the group claiming that double glazing can add value, reduce energy bills and lower noise.
Fixtures such as double glazing and composite doors - that can both improve the insulation of a home - may
therefore lead to an improved energy efficiency rating for a property.
Such information would then be included in the Home Information Pack
(Hips) which is given to buyers and could help to sway them.
Nick Marr, director at the Little House Company, said: "Hips have helped
those buying a home without an agent by providing detailed information about the property."
