Dispelling the myths of going green

When it comes to making environmental home improvements, one sector commentator is keen to dispel some of the myths that surround going green.

In an article for the Guardian, Dick Strawbridge, a green home expert and presenter with the BBC, said environmentally-friendly installation does not have to be expensive.

While some installation is greener than others, it all saves money in the long run, he added.

"All insulation takes energy to make it, but that is not a reason not to invest in it. The savings, for both the planet and the bank account, can be impressive," Mr Strawbridge explained, adding that if people are put off by the price of green insulation, they should go for a cheaper material.

He went on to state that another misconception is that eco renovations can take decades to regain the original cost, but he noted that people do not let this put them off when they are installing a new kitchen or bathroom.

Low Carbon Economy recently stated that double glazing was one addition that should be seen as a long-term investment.
