There is now an additional incentive to lower bills for making business premises more energy efficient, after the government pledged to reward
organisations that successfully lowered their carbon emissions.
Under the new Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme, the
performance of registered firms will be published in a league table, allowing consumers to see what some of the companies they use are doing to tackle
climate change.
Furthermore, the revenue raised through the sale of emissions allowances will then be passed on to the participants in the
form of a financial reward depending on their own performance.
It is hoped the scheme will reduce emissions by 34 per cent on 1990 levels by
2020.
Commenting on the news, a spokesperson from the Renewable Energy Centre.co.uk said: "This is one of the most positive initiatives
which the government has implemented."
However, there are also incentives for homeowners who make their properties more energy
efficient, including the possibility it will become more attractive to buyers.
Recent research by Pilkington energiKare revealed that 73 per
cent of buyers considered energy efficient double glazing as a major deciding factor
when purchasing a property.
