More people are buying and selling houses, new figures have revealed - and properties with double glazing, composite doors and other energy efficient fixtures may well
be worth a look.
According to the National Association of Estate Agents, the number of house-hunters registered per branch increased from 258
in February to 274 in March.
Furthermore, the average number of properties available for sale per branch increased from 56 in February to 60
in March, while the number of sales agreed per branch increased from an average of 6.8 to 8.0 over the same period.
Timothy Lambert, head of
consulting at Ducalian, said: "It is certainly not a bad time to buy a house so long as buyers do not stretch themselves
financially."
However, he urged first-time buyers not to bite off more that they could chew when it came to securing their
mortgage.
The Energy Saving Trust advises buyers to be on the lookout for fixtures such as double glazing, which can reduce the amount of heat lost through windows by half, thereby lowering energy bills as a result.
Meanwhile, composite doors could also help to boost the insulation of a home as they are better equipped for keeping out cold draughts than
timber external doors.
