Consumers hoping to renovate a period property to the highest eco standards may find that fitting double glazing can help them meet their targets.
While sash windows commonly present a problem to individuals hoping to update their property with energy efficient methods, there are ways of
getting round such issues, the Independent claimed.
Installing double glazing
may be one way to help reduce the amount of heat loss from a property with old sash windows, the paper noted.
Filling the gap between the two panes of glass with argon helps to make the windows even more efficient thanks to its insulating properties.
Speaking to the
newspaper, one person who completed an eco-refurbishment of a Victorian house, Sarah Harrison, said: "You can sit by them in winter without even
feeling that you're by a cold window."
Around £135 per year could be
saved by installing Energy Saving Trust recommended double glazing, the organisation
claims, noting that it would also help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 720 kg each year.
