Residents in St Edmundsbury, Forest Heath and Mid Suffolk may wish to invest in double
glazing after it was reported that thousands have complained about noisy neighbours over the last three years.
According to the Bury Free
Press, environmental health officers have revealed a total of 4,405 reports of loud noise in the last three years.
Complaints included wind
chimes, dripping taps, water features and traffic noise.
However, the most annoying sound voiced by residents concerned loud neighbours,
music and parties.
Richard Whitehead, principal environmental health officer at St Edmundsbury borough council, said: "One of the oddest
calls we had was a complaint from someone who was annoyed by the sound of a cricket ball hitting a bat in a field behind him."
He
advised residents to attempt to resolve the problem themselves before reporting it to environmental health and that some noises would not be deemed as
a nuisance.
However, homeowners who wish to keep noise at bay may like to consider having new windows installed.
Double glazing can keep unwanted
outdoors noises at bay, while also improving insulation.
