Should students look out for double glazing?

Double glazing could be a welcome addition to any property for students preparing to move into university accommodation for the first time.

While many young people may be looking forward to the night-life, when they need to study for an exam or finish some course work in their room, they may be glad of double glazing to minimise any distracting exterior noise.

Furthermore, double glazing could allow them to keep their central heating use to a minimum for the year, as it reduces heat lost through exterior windows by up to 50 per cent.

This could see students not having to stretch their tight budgets in order to meet energy bills.

The Guardian advises students that if they are unhappy with the place they are living - which may be student halls or a shared house - they can talk to their accommodation and request to be moved.

And they may also wish to ask a landlord about double glazing, if they are concerned their new home has old windows.
